Restaurants

Chiringuito Antonio at the marina

Very loud, very Spanish (seeing as it is the marina area), food we had was nice if maybe a little dearer than we thought it should be, place was manic by 10pm and the staff a little overwhelmed, nice and clean, maybe a little floodlit for our taste.

El Rincon Del Suarez

Opposite the service station on the way out of Ayamonte (near bus station). New restaurant, very Spanish, nicely decorated, quite full of mostly Spanish by 10pm, no English menu and staff didn’t speak English but were friendly and we got by ok. Had the Rape soup 3.5euros (delicious), the revuelto (yuk) which was not the same as I’ve had before, shared a linguado main course and pudding, bill was about 45 euros with a bottle of nice wine. So, not the cheapest but still felt it was good value, lively and looking at the other tables most of the food looked good quality.

Restaurante O Infante - Portugal

What a find, had a soup starter for 2.50euros (wasn’t all that), I had entrecote of steak with a choice of peppercorn, mushroom or gorganzola sauce (15.50). The meat was tender and superbly cooked and the food came on a huge plate with green beans, chips, shredded onion rings and rice. Unfortunately I had to leave half of it there was so much food. We saw plates of dressed crab and lobster and even a fondue on other peoples tables. Wine was beautiful and reasonably priced.

Retama Restaurant, Isla Canela Beach

This restaurant, which is next to the Riu Canela Hotel on Isla Canela beach is an excellent choice for all - but particularly for families.  The food is excellent; typical Andalucian fayre, and the staff and service are great.  Most of the staff speak good English.  The restaurant is right on the beach front and also has a good playground for the kids to use.  Highly recommended.

Bar Restaurant La Rana

The approach to this restaurant is not very promising as it is situated in the “Barrio” area south of the Ayamonte town centre.  However, the seafood served here is superb and the welcome for families was great.  Very little English is spoken, so take your Spanish phrasebook.  The place was is very busy at weekends.

The Big House - Asian Restaurant - Cartaya

There is a new Asian restaurant opened in Cartaya. Ideal for families with children because it has a free playground! Prices are excellent, free food. From Monday to Friday, pay 7 euros per person foe an “all you can eat buffet” (tdrinks are separately). On weekends 12 euros (includes dessert). The top floor is a restaurant with a variety of more traditional Japanese food, Chinese, Asian in general. Very good! upon entering Cartaya coming from Ayamonte, the restaurant is on the left on the main road.

Golfing layout

Really spectacular water hazards which surround some holes come directly from the river forming natural lakes. Gorgeous and also difficult is the second hole par-5. Not particularly long, only 447m, but well bunkered and with a stream which cuts across the fairway a couple of times and comes into play.

Difficult holes:

-Par-4 fourteenth is 383m long dog-leg to the left.

-Par-5 seventeenth is 489m long where a big lake awaits the wayward drive and the second shot has out of bounds on the left.

-Par-4 eighteenth of 373m has out of bounds on both sides of the fairway.

Summary

Isla Canela Golf is a 5937m long course which is ‘user-friendly’ whilst at the same time challenging course for golfers of all standards. Any player with medium handicap can enjoy it because the greens are generous in width, true and most of them easy to reach.

Isla Canela Golf is without the doubt the best golf course in Huelva province by virtue of its design, maintenance, price ranges and warm customer welcome.
